The Michigan Water Polo Association (MWPA) has unveiled the new State Championship Trophy, the first of which will be awarded on June 5th.
"The Mitten Trophy is really the idea of former MWPA Secretary and current Rockford Girls Head Coach Katie Clarin," MWPA Secretary and Web Admin Harrison Watt said. "Katie's commitment to the organization set our current board and myself up for success. Katie is a coach and administrator I greatly respect, and I'm glad to see one of her many great ideas become a staple of the MWPA State Championship for the future."
On the trophy itself: "The design is an interpretation on the MHSAA Trophy which comes in wood. We feel the flip to glass is really fitting for our incredible water sport. The breathtaking design, mounting and manufacturing was done by Creative Concepts in Rockford, who went above and beyond to help us convert some of our awards that were never given out last year due to the season being cancelled."
The first Mitten Trophy will be awarded at East Kentwood High School, following the girls state championship game to be played at 12 pm ET.
