Joey Sutherlin

Joey Sutherlin is in his second year as Vice President of the Michigan Water Polo Association following his spring 2019 election to the board for his first term.

Currently the Aquatics Director for Kentwood Public Schools and Assistant Athletics Director at East Kentwood High School, Sutherlin has manned the site of some of the most dramatic Water Polo Contests of the last decade in over 10 years at EK.

Formerly, Joey was the Varsity Boys Head Coach from 2012-2019 at East Kentwood, and the Aquatics Director and Assistant Athletic Director at Grand Rapids Community College from 1996-2010. While at GRCC, Sutherlin ran the club team from 2002-2009.

At the high school level, Sutherlin was West Region Coach of the Year in 2014 for East Kentwood.

As a player, Sutherlin starred for Creston High School from 1986-1989. He was the Defensive MVP in 1988 and team MVP in 1989 as well as the Don Adamson Award Winner.
